IMPORTANT NOTICE  updated Jan 2026

The  USA import charge "de minimis" of USD$800 including freight which allowed items under $800 to enter the US from New Zealand without any  fees ended on August 29. The US has also increased the tariff on goods from New Zealand from 2% to 17%.

The  international customs code that covers the Kiwisdr radios SHOULD  be exempt tariff even after the de mimimis ends.

Almost all shipments since September 2025 to the USA have been delivered  with no additional fees.

Sorry - but this is a moving target

They are shipped ready to plug and play. No other computer is required. Just plug in a 5V power supply, an Ethernet cable to your network, and an HF antenna and it will be accessible from anywhere in the world via the Internet.

Requires 5V 2A DC supply with standard 5.5mm round connector with 2.1mm centre hole.

Optional Kiwisdr Power supply cable

USB-A or USB-C to 5V 5.5mm/2.1mm DC plug

For best performance the Kiwisdr 5V power supply needs to be very low noise. Genuine Apple USB iPhone chargers are very good. Cheap clones are terrible. We have had some USB-A to 5.5mm/2.1mm DC cables made to work with the iPhone chargers. It is not simple to make your own USB to 5V power cable as most USB cables use wires that are very thin so the volt drop causes problems. The USB to 5.5mm cable is available as an option when you purchase a Kiwisdr2.

Anyone who has been using iPhones for a number of years will have an old USB-A Apple charger laying around or you probably know friend who has a spare one.

Apple no longer sell USB-A chargers as all new devices use USB-C. We have tested the Apple USB-C 20W chargers using a USB-A to USB-C adaptor. The Apple 20W USB-C chargers are electrically very quiet. Most clone power supplies are very noisy.

This is the recommended Apple USB-C power supply

Optional USB-A or USB-C power cable

We are now including a USB-A to USB-C adaptor with the optional power cable which means you can can power the Kiwisdr from any Apple Iphone charger and have very low power supply noise getting into the radio.
